Today, when I tried to access my gmail account, I got this error message – This webpage has a redirect loop error. I guess this affects several other people, since I got calls on how to resolve this – best I wrote down the steps I took to resolve this.
For the record, I am using Google Chrome 13.0.782.55 beta-m for Windows 7 Ultimate. The suggestion from the error message was ‘Clearing your cookies from this site, or allowing third party cookies may fix the problem‘. I will now attempt to clear specific cookies for the www.gmail.com site, rather than wiping my entire cookie list.
Step One – Click on the “Customize and Control Google Chrome” icon, located on the top right of your Google Chrome browser, then select ‘Options‘. You will then be presented with 3 general options – Basic, Personal Stuff, Under the hood – located on the top left navigational menu.
Step two – Click on the ‘Under the Hood‘ menu item on the left, followed by selecting the option ‘Content Setting‘ on the right.
Step three – Click the button ‘All Cookies and site data‘ to select all cookies.
Step 4 – You will then be presented with a list of cookies stored on your computer. You do have the choice of removing all your cookies, or if you can remove just the cookie affecting your gmail settings. For this exercise, I removed only the gmail cookies. For this, I entered ‘google’ into the top right search and hit enter. I was presented with several google associated cookies, but the one I am interested in is themail.google.com entry. I proceeded to remove this particular cookie by clicking the ‘X‘ to the right of this entry. Gmail works (for me) right after this step.
Hope this helps you.
